GLOBAL CITIZEN AWARENESS
My name is LaShonda Clarke and I am from the Bahamas. I am an international student at St Petersburg College studying Aviation Maintenance Management and enrolled in the SPC Global Citizen Program. I am not a typical woman. I am a self-motivated, scholar who is determined to avoid complacency and set a good example for those who enter my path. I enjoy working with airplanes; I gain a lot of satisfaction in fixing things, I guess you could say I'm very technical!
When I began this journey to global citizen distinction, I was timid, close-minded, and almost afraid to be fully engaged in other cultures. Now that I have gone through the program, I discovered abilities that I never knew existed. The pathway through SPC’s global citizen program also began my journey into other parts of the world. For example, I completed two courses in South Africa at the Nelson Mandela University. As you review the pages in this portfolio, you will see how being a global citizen has connected my academic and professional career.

I AM NOT THE TYPICAL WOMAN
Before embarking on this journey into the United States to attend college, I found it difficult to write on topics that expressed or explained aspects of myself. It was challenging because I was still attempting to understand the person I became. Usually at the age of twenty-five, a person is expected to already know who they are and what they do, but being at the age of twenty-nine I am now seeing a clearer picture. When I first asked these questions, I spent time thinking about the person that I want the world to know...
